This 8 page report discusses the role of religion and its contribution to the concept of democracy. Religion has played an important role in the development and the ongoing support of democratic principles.
Religion and democratic politics have had difficulty coexisting, because one suggests an unyielding body of law, a peremptory understanding of what is right and wrong, while the other suggests a more relativistic approach, allowing for laws that can be changed, a sense that the majority should determine what is right and what is wrong.
